An Exciting Roman Adventure at Halling Primary School!
On 18th March 2025, our Year 4 students embarked on an unforgettable journey back in time as they participated in a hands-on Roman Workshop. The day was filled with excitement, learning, and plenty of action, giving the children a vivid glimpse into life during Ancient Rome.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the thrilling gladiator fight in the school hall. With shields raised high and mock swords in hand, the students donned their gladiator persona for an epic (and safe!) battle, sparking their imaginations and bringing history to life in a way only a living history experience could.
But the day didn’t end with just the gladiatorial combat. The students also got crafty, creating their very own Roman amulet necklaces. Each child took home their handcrafted amulet, a personal piece of Roman history to treasure and remember the day by.
The workshop also provided the opportunity for some historical games that the children enjoyed immensely. From throwing tali (Roman dice) to learning about ancient board games, the students were entertained while discovering the fun and competitive side of Roman leisure activities.
As part of their learning experience, the students had a chance to try their hand at reading and writing in Latin, using authentic Roman writing tools. The children practised their best Roman handwriting on wax tablets and parchment, feeling like they were faithful scribes in an ancient Roman forum.
Thank you to Living History Workshops for making this day truly special. Their engaging and interactive approach helped the students connect with the past in a way that textbooks alone could never achieve.
